I LOVE ABBOT KINNEY

Dunkle. how can this street keep getting better and better? and NOT ONE CHAIN STORE. Nanc said she'd had lunch at Hals with a friend - love Hals - and found some good shops and bought a thing or two. sad that i missed out on the excursion i had the chance to drop by the next day. i only had limited time but this is what i found:

fiore designs, 1617 Abbot Kinney

Bohemian Exchange, 1358 Abbot Kinney

At fiore i found great stuff for two bathrooms including a relative of the above bird (will document later). at Bohemian Exchange i found a great dress (somehow i only documented the jewelry) at a great price.

anthropologies's winter wonderland / sf

wally...apologies for my long-overdue updates. pre-holidays have been filled with kids, kids and MORE kids obligations and activities. that being said, i couldn't wait another minute to share these shots from our local anthropologie store located in corte madera, here in marin county.

this tree was created on site and constructed from actual tree branches. the leaves are all tissue paper, cut and hung by hand.

these displays are absolutely magical and worth a trip just to take it all in. people are "oohing and ahing" all over the store (and they haven't even broken their wallets out yet!). each anthropologie store has it's own stylist crew and is given a theme. no two stores are alike. i would love to see what they've done at the third street promenade store in santa monica.( hint)

the entire display you see here was created with mere tissue paper. this particular section of the store has soaring ceilings. the stylists cut thousands of ribbons from snowy-white tissue paper then draped it from the rafters above to create this dreamy snow fall effect.

when a slight breeze blows through the store, the ribbons sway with it.

my favorite display was this section of the store that created hundreds of tissue paper flowers from white, ivory and creme tissue paper. it is absolutely gorgeous. giant pom-poms from floor to ceiling that spill from the interior of the store out to the front windows. i felt like i was waiting for a winter wedding to begin.

the pom-poms are all back lit with bulbs wrapped in chicken wire which creates this ethereal effect... i left so inspired. it was truly a "winter wonderland".

new iPhone documents outing

dunkle, i know you took all those pics of The Sacred Place on your iPhone. so, having forgot my huge, expensive, fabulous Canon at home i whipped out the 'ole iPhone today when the kids and i went on our two museum excursion to the La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA.

Equipped in Jack Purcells from Theodore.

recent improvements definitely include the grounds here.

today i was so enamored with those mechanical displays. they must be as old as the fossils.

Lunch at LACMA put on by Patina. Los Angeles museums make me so much happier now that i can get good food. they also sell my favorite candy.

Chris Burden's "Street Lights".

exploring Richard Serra's "Band".

we also sped through the Pompeii exhibit at the 8 year olds' pace. he did stop long enough to quietly make mention of all the naked body parts he saw. we noted that there were probably dozens of penises in evidence.

TwoFab/LA My Fav-Magnolia Bakery

photos:  Gracie S.

i'm going to be going to Magnolia Bakery in NYC and many other cool/tasty/fabulous places next month.  i can't wait to see if i can get the mobile posting thing down.  please note i will be scarfing more than one of these (white cake w/vanilla frosting for me). Miss Grace took these photos when we took a family trip to NYC last summer.  the kids were thrilled to get a fresh one not all banged up from the airplane ride home.  PS  i make these at home now because i bought the Magnolia Bakery cook book and it IS just as good.  and PPS i just read that they deliver anywhere in Manhatton...i will be checking this out.

LA/For my friend Emi

My friend Emi, loved my very special Shale colored Jack Purcell's (see below).  special because they go with absolutely everything!  I also have a yummy chocolate brown pair that get regular use.  When I went to document them for the blog I found the above pair that I'm now lusting after.  Emi, you can pick these up at Theodore in the Brentwood Gardens.  It's a great shop; there's so much more than shoes.  Theodore 310.207.4111.

LA/Adorable in Abercrombie

Dunkle, check out this adorable jacket i got for Quinn at Abercrombie in the Westfield Century City Mall (Los Angeles).  they've been having a winter sale and everything is SO reasonable.  might work for some very snazzy V Day gifts for the kids.
