The Sacred Space/ sf

Wally, we're havin' a heat wave here in Nor Cal! It's our Second Summer (which is the politically correct version of Indian Summer) season...with rain due on Tues! So weird. At any rate, a conversation sparked yesterday with a girlfriend about tropical gardens and eastern influences so I thought it might be fun to share The Sacred Space with you and our friends. The kids and I actually spotted The Sacred Space while we were vacationing in L.A. this summer. It's located on the frontage road in the town of Summerland, just south of Santa Barbara. This shot shows the gigantic Buddha head visible from HWY 101. Please note the scale of the Buddah in comparison to the vehicle seen here in the parking lot!

If the giant Buddha head doesn't get your attention, the massive collection of antiquities and collectibles just just might. We had no idea what laid ahead of us just inside the entrance here.

The Sacred Space is very deceptive from the street. We had no idea of the size of the property. One of the things I loved so much was stumbling upon one fabulous outdoor room after another. Incredible statuary, fountains, garden art, deities, artifacts...everywhere.

It felt like I was either in Bali and or on a Hollywood movie set. Just look at these ginormous carved doors.

Here is a detail from another set of carved, wooden doors.

I thought about you and your backyard parasols when I saw this. They carry some very cool parasol holders as well.

Here is a shot of one of the pavilions they carry. Each one is unique. It would be so much fun to have one of these in the backyard and throw a Balinese Party night or a gal-pal lunch.

Great alternative to a lot of the standard patio structures. You could take a nap or even do yoga here. I would most likely claim it for my personal space and listen to some tunage.

Here are my traveling com padres enjoying a quiet moment in the shade.

One of several altars found inside the store.

Another set of doors with a completely different look and feel. Simpler and could work really well in a contemporary setting.

I want one of these. Think I'll wait until I move. I don't need to break it en route.

Loving the patina on these doors.

I highly recommend making a day trip out of visiting The Sacred Space, but if you absolutely can't make it to Summerland, (which is next to tragic in my book), you can visit their website or call them directly. Both would be well worth the trip!
