Wally, you really know how to hurt a girl! I am so completely envious of you and Mel jetting around the city. All the amazing shopping, restaurants, museums! All this talk about NY has got me pining for the glory days of Madison Avenue, the Plaza, Central Park...the glamour, the fashion...and naturally, the hats. The
HATS ! So, I've pulled together a little
Homage to Vintage...And who better to encapsulate the quintessential style experience than the
Master,
Irving Penn? There is an obvious fascination with cigarette smoking going on here. Ok, let's put that aside for a moment...These women have all got such great
attitude, don't they? Strong, totally feminine, smoldering,
hauties.
The
eyeliner, the
feathers, the
fur...clearly no animal rights activists within miles.
Not to mention the high cheekbones and pinched waistlines. These women are clearly not eating their way their way through NY.
They are definitely earning their day rates...I challenge anyone to try balancing one of these stylish headpieces for the length a photo shoot and
not have an
I Love Lucy moment ! No easy feat...not to mention looking chic and exquisitely coiffed while they strike that perfect pose. I'm lucky if I get out the door in the morning without a brush stuck in my hair.
So the bad news is I'm not going with with you and Mel. The GREAT news is I found an
amazing and vast collection of fashion, magazine, and advertising imagery from
My Vintage Vogue on
Flickr.
Jessica, the curator of
My Vintage Vogue lives in L.A. and has been collecting fashion imagery since she was two years old! The images above are truly just the tip of the iceberg. You can easily get lost in these collections as well as her website,
My Vintage Vogue. Truly
twofab !! A whole lot cheaper than a week in NY...although not even close to as much fun.
